I’ve been asked to write a little blurb about our Church Weekend Away and why I am excited. So here are 5 reasons why I am excited for this year’s Weekend Away (& why I hope you will be as well!)

We’re going back to Deer Park,

On the Port Hacking! It is such a beautiful & restful place that instantly makes me relax and enjoy God’s goodness. With the Port Hacking river in front and the Royal National Park surrounding – it’s a perfect place for a weekend getaway with my Church family! What’s more it’s only 20mins drive from Gymea! Perfect for day visitors, families with kids, or for people who may need to duck off during the weekend.

The Cost is DOWN!

Having decided to drop the Sunday night option – the cost to attend the whole weekend from 13th-15th July is now much cheaper than ever before! Yes – sadly we lose the Sunday night and Monday at Port Hacking, but if that means more comrades can come along for the rest of the time – it’s well worth it!

We get to grow our relationships with God and with each other.

Unlike Sundays or combined services – Weekend Away serves as an intentional extended time that we can invest in Church friendships from our services but also get to know others outside our Church circle. With plenty of things to do: fishing, bushwalks, board games,  puzzles, Saturday night entertainment, or just a cuppa on the     balcony – it’s one of the best ways to grow our relationships with each other!

Dr Mark Stephens is opening God’s Word

For us with four talks on the topic of “Discipleship” – (Friday night, Saturday Morning, Sunday morning and Sunday evening at a special 5pm combined service back at Gymea!) Mark is a vibrant, funny, and clear communicator who lectures at Excelsia College – here’s his bio:

Dr Mark Stephens is lecturer in Biblical and Integrative Studies and Chaplain at Excelsia College. He has a PhD in Ancient History from Macquarie University, where he studied cosmic eschatology in the book of Revelation. Between 2004 and 2007, Mark was the Young Adults Director at St Paul’s Castle Hill, overseeing a ministry to 200 college students. In his spare time he enjoys Campos coffee, the humour of Monty Python, the music of Patty Griffin, and the sheer absurdity of being a Parramatta Eels supporter.

Weekend Away is ONLY 9 weeks away!

The 13th-15th July is fast approaching (I know! How are we nearly halfway through another year?!?) That is 9 short weeks to book in, pack your Ugg boots, and get excited for all the fun, food, and fellowship that is coming our way!

I hope you’re as excited (or more!) for Weekend Away 2018 as I am. It looks to be an excellent time yet again, together around God’s Word in God’s beautiful bush!
