Sports Chaplaincy – it’s a great opportunity for women’s ministry too!

When  we think about ministry in sport we often wrongly think “that’s a bloke thing”.  And yet women’s sport is BOOMING!  Netball is HUGE and there are more females playing soccer in the Shire than all the rugby league, Aussie Rules and rugby combined.

There are dozens of sporting clubs in the Shire looking for chaplains – men and women. Chaplains don’t need to be Bible College trained!  Sport chaplaincy offers local training.  Our own John Hunter is chaplain to Gymea Bowling Club.  Listen to the story of the NSW State Coordinator Sports Chaplaincy Australia

I’m Raewyn Elsegood, and I found ‘home’ when I found chaplaincy in the local netball space 4 seasons ago.  What a privilege it is to help meet the needs of 350 girls and their families.  Life is crazy out there and a calm caring soul is sometimes all that is needed to guide the way forward. When I first came on board my SCA contact and supervisor was the beautiful Hannah Johnson. I learnt a lot about myself through her valuable listening ear. You might find the following of interest:

· 2nd November, 12-6pm.   State Huddle and Incident Response training day at Sports House, Sydney Olympic Park

· Level 1 training –  is now online. This is our two hour introduction course to SCA.
