What’s it mean to be church?
Coronavirus and the shut down of churches has raised this question again. The word “church” In the NT wasn’t a religious word. Ecclesia simply meant “gathering” and this has always been at the heart of church. A church that doesn’t meet or gather is an oxymoron. Ultimate church is found in Rev 21 when all God’s people gather together with Jesus as his bride. Our broadcasts have been a wonderful blessing thanks to Ben & Matt and others. But its not church. Our broadcast lets us sing, pray & hear God’s word, but we can’t love people we don’t meet with. Church was never meant to be just about me and my experience of God. It’s about us, and coming together to love and care for each other. We can’t do that watching a screen. Many of our members will be away on much needed and delayed holidays in July. Others will be prevented by health issues. But if you can, I’d love to see you gathered as the family of God, and the body of Christ, serving each other, encouraging each other, loving each other in these tough times.

Will we still have 4 Sunday services?

Yes, after consulting our members and discussing the matter with staff on Wednesday, I was convinced that the effort to provide 4 services is worth it, for the sake of enabling all those who want to meet as God’s people to do so. Even though just 84 of our 285 members have met the last 2 weeks, I have been convinced that many plan to return in July to the church they love. Even though we could fit people in to just 2 services, many members tell me a 9am and 5pm just wouldn’t work for them. I don’t want anyone to miss out on church who really want to meet. But no-one should feel pressured to come back till they believe this is what God wants for them.
