You will be aware that the NSW Government has announced that when 70% of the State is fully vaccinated then there will be a partial relaxation of restrictions. However, those not vaccinated will remain under “stay at home orders”. Once 80% are fully vaccinated then there will be a further easing of restrictions. It is anticipated that this will be achieved around the end of October. Much of this needs to be fully explained, but it is wonderful to have the encouragements of these announcements.
What will this mean for us at church? While the details are yet to be finalised, the Bishop of each Region in Sydney will meet with the ministers and wardens of each church to discuss proposals for a return to gathering for church. Bishop Peter Hayward will meet with the ministers and wardens of the Sutherland Shire and Wollongong churches on 29th September. We will then be able to outline what church might look like. How exciting to be able to consider meeting together for Christmas!
As we anticipate that opportunity how may we prepare?
This presents a wonderful opportunity for us to express our thanks to God for seeing us through the pandemic so far. Now is the time to think of people you know or see and to think of inviting them to join us in giving thanks to God. We are looking at planning a Thanksgiving Fair (something like that) possibly in November. The aim is to re-build some connection with the community and to invite people to join us at our Christmas celebrations. Planning is at very early stages, but do think and pray for who you could invite!
