About the event

On this weekend millions of Christians will meet to mark Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Musicians will lead in worship, and help us to think through the awe and wonder of crucifixion and resurrection. Preachers will open God’s Word and announce, over three days, six words that change everything: “It is finished” and “He is risen!”.

If you'd like to join us this weekend we will be meeting at the following times:

  • 7.00pm Thursday - Maundy Thursday Parish Meal (RSVP Only)
  • 10.00am Friday - Good Friday (with kids program)
  • 8.00am Sunday - Holy Communion
  • 10.00am Sunday - Easter Day (with kids program)
  • 5.00pm Sunday - Easter Day (with kids program)

Here is the relevance of Easter for us today. What happened to Jesus can one day happen to us. Death is not the end. There’s more coming. Our bodies will be raised from the dead as well. They’ll be different from now, Paul explains, but they will raised just as Jesus was raised from the dead. This is the message that the early Christians brought to the world and in these times of uncertainty, Easter still brings a message of hope, that we have a future. St Augustine said “we are an Easter people. Alleluia is our song” .

The Collect For Easter (BCP)

ALMIGHTY God, who through thine only-begotten Son Jesus Christ hast overcome death, and opened unto us the gate of everlasting life: We humbly beseech thee, that as by thy special grace preventing us thou dost put into our minds good desires, so by thy continual help we may bring the same to good effect; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Acknowledgement Of Country

Gymea Anglican Church acknowledges the triune God, the Creator of heaven and earth and His ownership of all things (Psalm 24:1). We recognise that He gave stewardship of these lands upon which we meet to the First Nations Peoples of this country (Acts 11:26). In His sovereignty, He has allowed other people groups to migrate to these shores. We acknowledge the cultures of our First Nations Peoples and are thankful for the community that we share together now. We pay our respects to Dharawal speaking people who are the traditional custodians of the area now called Gymea, and their elders leaders, both past and present, and those who are rising up to become leaders. We pay our respect to all First Nations People and pray for God’s blessing on all Australians as we seek reconciliation and justice.
