Peace AT Christmas: A Reflection on Carols in the Car Park

Writer's picture: David FellDavid Fell

What a night! This past weekend, Gymea Anglican hosted Carols in the Car Park, and it was an absolute joy to see so many of our community come together for an evening of celebration, music, and the hope and peace of Christmas.

A Community United

There’s something truly special about seeing people from all walks of life gather under the stars to sing familiar carols and hear the timeless story of Jesus’ birth. In a world that often feels chaotic and uncertain, Christmas reminds us of a peace that surpasses understanding - a peace that only Jesus can bring.

We’re so grateful for the privilege of serving the Gymea community. Events like Carols in the Car Park are a tangible expression of our love for Gymea and our desire to share the joy and hope of the season. It was great to see so many familiar faces, along with plenty of new ones, join us for the evening.

Thank You to Our Amazing Team

Of course, an event like this doesn’t happen without a lot of people behind the scenes. While I can’t name everyone, there are a few key people who deserve special recognition:

Renae, who led the event planning with incredible skill and grace, ensuring everything ran smoothly.

• Our incredible music team, who put so much time and heart into rehearsals to bring the carols to life.

• The tech team, who managed everything from sound to lighting to create such a professional and welcoming atmosphere.

• The catering crew, who kept everyone well-fed and made sure the night felt warm and hospitable.

To each and every volunteer who contributed - whether it was setting up chairs, managing car parks, or welcoming guests - you made this night unforgettable.

Looking Ahead

As we reflect on this year’s event, we’re already excited about what’s to come in 2025! Seeing the Gymea community come together is so very very cool!

At its heart, Christmas is a story of God’s love for the world. It’s about light breaking into darkness, peace overcoming chaos, and a promise of hope that never fades. That’s the message we love to share with Gymea, not just at Christmas, but all year round.

Thank you for being part of such a special evening. We’re so grateful for this community, and it’s our joy and privilege to serve you.

Wishing you all a peaceful and joy-filled Christmas,

David Fell

Acknowledgement Of Country

Gymea Anglican Church acknowledges the triune God, the Creator of heaven and earth and His ownership of all things (Psalm 24:1). We recognise that He gave stewardship of these lands upon which we meet to the First Nations Peoples of this country (Acts 11:26). In His sovereignty, He has allowed other people groups to migrate to these shores. We acknowledge the cultures of our First Nations Peoples and are thankful for the community that we share together now. We pay our respects to Dharawal speaking people who are the traditional custodians of the area now called Gymea, and their elders leaders, both past and present, and those who are rising up to become leaders. We pay our respect to all First Nations People and pray for God’s blessing on all Australians as we seek reconciliation and justice.
